Large Cat Breeds

Large cat breeds have little else in common aside from their massive presence. The biggest cat breeds include indoor and outdoor cats, hypoallergenic cats, family cats, and several exotic cats. Despite their size of 9 inches or taller or over 15 pounds in weight, a large house cat doesn’t necessarily require a larger home. Some of these breeds are extremely mellow and make wonderful apartment pets.

These massive kitties can sometimes come with equally-sized personalities. Nearly all of the exotic breeds fall into this category, and they usually require a good amount of mental and physical stimulation to stay out of trouble. Their larger size often means they can jump higher than the average cat, extending their mischievous reach. With that said, some other breeds are known for their calm demeanor and make excellent cuddling companions while thriving in more confined spaces. Some of the smartest and oldest cat breeds are among these gentle giants, so those looking for more trainable family pets may be very happy with a large house cat. Do keep in mind that individual sizes and weights can vary, so don’t be surprised if your large cat is a little smaller or lighter than normal for their breed.
